According to Dr. William Glasser, we choose all of our behaviors, based on the five basic needs: survival, belonging, power, freedom and fun.

If we want to change the way we are feeling emotionally or physically, the most effective way to do this is to change what we are doing.

If for some reason, we can’t change what we are doing, we can change what we are thinking.

We always have a choice.

I share a story of a woman who overcame homelessness by shifting her perspective and focusing on gratitude.

What choices can you make all day- throughout your day- that will lead you to your goal of living a happier life?

You have the power in every situation to ask yourself– will doing this thing- or thinking this thought- make me feel good? Or will it leave me feeling not so good?

Based on this knowledge, you can make choices to reflect the way you want to feel.

What is one choice you can make today that can give you a little burst of joy?

Please share it with me! I really want to know!

I used to think it was selfish to focus on self care, but then I realized that when you show up with good energy, your light inspires the light to force its way out of others so that they can let themselves sparkle too. You are an instrument of change, adding so much light to the world.

Special thanks to Cathy Heller and her podcast “Don’t Keep Your Day Job” for the inspiration to put this show together, and for her song Gonna Make a Change which is featured in the episode.
